Press Conference - Presentation of 1st SIGHT Scholar
With the donation from Equal Opportunities Foundation, SIGHT established SIGHT Scholar Scheme for the first time to 6 students in two teams to let them work on their self-proposed healthcare projects in full time internship in Indonesia and Cambodia.
The first team initiates a diabetic retinopathy screening program for Indonesia. A cloud-based software program aims to detect diabetic eye diseases from retinal images collected by a portable device will be developed. Another awarding team has planned to further deploy a mobile application building on the foundation of the laptop-based electronic medical record system which an earlier SIGHT team built in 2015. The app, that is easier to be carried around the slums in Cambodia, enables medical staffs to input and access information using their mobile phones, and keep medical records in a systematic, paperless, and retrievable database. The continuous health record of patients hope to help doctors serving the most underprivileged community to make informed decisions and therefore improve the health care quality.

[Workshop] Deliver Impact with Design Thinking
Design Thinking is a methodological approach to solution finding that places the human user at the center of things. With this approach we tackle real world problems by navigating across the boundaries between art, business, engineering, science, human and social values.
This workshop will demonstrate the methods and success stories of Design Thinking. With real life examples, you will learn to navigate your path of Design Thinking to bring ideas into fruition and also the impact such methods can bring to the real world.
Date & time: 18/2/2016 (Thursday), 18:00-19:30
Location: Room 4219, lift 19

- [SEMINAR] Everyone is Creative! Yes, but what does that really mean?
Are you creative? This is a terrible question. You are creative. This is the truthful answer. The problem is that most people are using the wrong definition of creativity.
In this program, Rich will explore what creativity is and show how everyone is creative. He’ll share how creativity can be understood, developed, and used to solve problems and express your ideas.
The seminar was a resounding success, with more than 200 participants, check out the photos on the right! |
- [WORKSHOP] Design Thinking Workshop - Ethnographic Interviewing + Prototyping
In the design thinking process, the beginning and the end are the least familiar to most people and the most challenging to do well. To become an effective design thinker, empathy-building exercises and tools are a must. After you have a “great” idea, you need to make it real for the user and let them experience it - only then do you know if the idea is great.
In this program, Rich will give you the principles of user interviews, a tool to process your interview data, and a simple guide to doing a good field interview for a project. Then we will make some real ideas concrete by building them as prototypes. You will learn by doing in this workshop.
Our SIGHT Campers and other students had a great time during the workshop, see photos on the right! |
